North American T-28D Trojan 1:48 Scale Kit
The venerable North American T-28 Trojan was designed to replace the T-6 Texan in the training role. During the early 60's some surplus T-28A/B/Cs were modified for the counter insurgency role and were utilized in south east asia. Roden's new T-28 series are the first new kits of the T-28 in 1/48th scale in decades. This release is the armed T-28D. You have the option of building a standard T-28D or the later T-28D-5. Note that the standard T-28D uses the large gun pods and 4 weapon racks whereas the D-5 uses the smaller gun pods and 6 weapon racks. The kit is well detailed and molded, but some flash will need to be carefully removed. Some parts will require careful alignment and fitting. There are several annoying ejector pin marks in the wheel bays. The landing gear is quite delicate and may need replacement by a aftermarket metal set given that 25 grams of nose weight is recommended. Some may also wish to replace the basic looking cockpit seats. The ventral speed brake should filled in if you are modeling an aircraft that was converted from a T-28A. The decals are okay but a few good aftermarket sets are available. It won't be a weekend build, but well worth the effort and will build into a nice looking model.
