Twin Otter DHC-6 1:72 Ex-Matchbox
That's right folks, this is the only Twin Otter kit ever produced in injection plastic. Don't go reaching for those old HOBBYCRAFT catalogs, I'll save you the trouble- they only did a single Otter, never got around to doing a Twin. There are some 1/144 scale resin kits on the market from BS Design/F-Resin [ for the specialist builder ] & an obscure 1/72 scale resin kit issued back in 2008 from Asia that no-one has ever seen. I cannot say that a Twin was not ever issued in vacuform, but I am sure you would not care to build it if it did exist in this kit style [ molded sheet plastic is not for everyone !]. We get lots of requests for Twin Otter models & are happy that Matchbox had the foresight to issue this kit [back in 1983] & a darn good model it is too ! Revell Germany now owns most of the old Matchbox catalog & issues this kit periodically to make us happy. This edition from 2014 is a beauty as it gives us all Canadian content, namely decals for:
-
No 440 Squadron, Canadian Armed Forces, Namao, Canada, May 1983
-
West Coast Air floatplane, Victoria Harbour, Canada, October 2006
Some detail regarding these options from Modellversium.de, an excellent German modeling site :
"The very good decal sheet enables the construction of two machines. The first, a kind of "mandatory program" for the Twin Otter, is the well-known "Yellow Angel" of the Canadian Air Force. This was already included in previous editions. This time it is the "806" of the No.440 Sqn. from Edmonton in Alberta. It had its first flight in 1971 and was in service with the Canadian Armed Forces until 1994. She then received civil registration and has been flying at Summit Air in Canada since 2013 with the registration C-FTXQ. The second machine, a civilian registered Twin Otter, spent its first ten years in South America before returning to Canada in late 1978. From then on she mainly flew for Air BC, but was also leased to other companies. In 1996 it was sold to West Coast Air, where it was in service until 2011 under registration C-GJAW. She is currently flying as N137JR for JRS Sky Inc. in the US state of New York. Â "Â
This is a new kit, newly issued, not lingering in a warehouse since 2014. '2014 issue' Â means that this item RV4901 was first issued in 2014 with this box art & decal options as noted. Who knows how many times Revell has issued it since 2014. Does it matter ??? A lovely all plastic kit & recommended to all.
