This is the first ever injection molded kit of the Sunderland MkV. There have been many MkIII's over the years, mostly from Airfix, and Italeri has issued a MkI recently [ as well as a MkIII ]. There may have been a vacform yonks ago, but I can't be bothered to go looking for it. Having said this, it is plastic, but it is a Special Hobby kit & cannot be slapped together over the weekend ! Experience with short-run style kits is a must, as there are no locating lugs on any of the parts, & many parts will need to be carefully trimmed & sanded to ensure a good fit. Dry fitting is a must. Patience is a virtue ! Special Hobby no doubt will issue other versions of this aircraft & many of these parts will be common to those issues. However, areas of the kit have been tooled to allow for these variants to be made, resulting in extra work for the modeler, namely in the skill of carefully fitting, trimming & applying putty to those areas. There is one resin part & a very small fret of etch, no problem with these parts for most of us; the trick is putting the plastic together ! Those of you wanting a simpler build will be directed to the recent Italeri offering of the Sunderland Mk I or III [ they don't make a MkV yet ], but many of us will persevere with this beauty as the 'anoraks' of the modeling world have deemed this kit 'worthy'!

A Sunderland MkV in 1/72 scale & a "Commie Smasher" to boot ! Great stuff !!!
