MPM Bf109T-1/T-2 1:48**Discontinued**
The Bf109T was intended to be operated from the German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin, but this did not come to pass. The aircraft had it's wings lengthened & landing gear strengthened for carrier use, but the Graf was never completed & this aircraft type spent most of it's active life based in Norway where it was credited with shooting down the first B-17 over Europe.Â
This is not a quick kit to build & is strictly aimed at the experienced fanatic. The 1990's may have been the Golden Age of multi-media kit production, but that does not mean to say that the kits just clicked together! There was much growth & experimentation in that period that brought us to where we are today & MPM was one of the key manufacturers that honed the cutting edge. A typical short run kit from the period, the plastic is simple & laden with flash, whereas the resin is gorgeous but needs to be carefully worked into the plastic. To quote Monty Python- there will be a "great rubbing of parts" before this kit goes together nicely & your hair may be a little bit more grey when you are done! Are the results worth it?- of course they are ! This is the kind of challenge that the true modeler lives for & relishes every stress inducing moment of the build! The weak willed will have to resort to collecting diecast models, but they will be waiting a lo-o-ong time for someone to make them a Bf109T model !
This model is Mint in box, unopened, in it's original seal. This MPM edition was issued around 1994 and appears to be the only appearance of this mold- it was never shared with any other manufacturer as far as I can see. The kit allows you to build the scarcer T-1 with the carrier tail-hook or the T-2 without the hook, which is the variant that saw active combat in Norway & beyond. Decals are by the legendary Propagteam & are known to be as thin as human skin, so take care when using them!- particularly as they are now about 25 years old !!! My, how time flies.......
There is a decent build review on modelingmadness, I recommend you check it out if you are interested in this kit. There is no other Bf109T kit in 1/48 currently on the market [ July 2020 ]
