Lancaster BIII [ Special ] Dambuster 1:72 New Tool 2012
Airfix has embarked on an ambitious plan to completely refresh it's catalog of classic kits.
Gone are the many very old molds, some dating back to the late 1950's, and in are brand new molds, newly tooled, of many of their classic subjects. The original Airfix Lancaster mold dates back to 1958, but it was not until 1993 that they issued this kit with added parts to make the Dambuster version. These kits are now retired, collector's items, replaced by a newly tooled family of 'red box' kits. The kit we see here, AX09007, is the first in this family of newly tooled Lancasters, first issued in 2012.
Absolutely world class all plastic kit ! Although there will be those that will point out some minor flaws, it rivals the Revell Germany RV4300 Lancaster for build & accuracy. No kit is perfect, but this one is very close. An added bonus with this kit are the decals, both options are from 617 Squadron naturally, but one aircraft was flown by a Canadian pilot-Flight Lt. Joseph Charles McCarthy, DFC, of the RCAF.
