This book looks at all the many research programs that are taking place in the fields of airframe and engine design, avionics, weapons, radar, countermeasures and propulsion.  The contenders for the program are the Boeing F-32 and the Lockheed Martin F-35, which ultimately became the winner of the competition as the Lightning II.
