DC10-30 American N143AA polished metal 1:200**Collection sale
2013 issue, discontinued. 360 pieces were made. Mint model from a collection in near new box, complete with stand-however, the polished metal finish has gone 'cloudy' from long storage in it's box.
This model has been stored since it was purchased in this box, wrapped in the plastic sheets that Inflight used to protect the metal finish from damage during shipping. This plastic has now 'attacked' the surface of the model & caused it to go 'cloudy'. This can not be buffed out, it will stay like this forever.
These models were not designed to be stored forever in their boxes ! There is a line of thought that air circulation does these metal-finish models some good- they need to be carefully displayed out of their boxes ! Keeping them sealed in a box, wrapped in plastic, actually damages the metal finish over time ! I have seen chromed models actually 'crazed' from long storage in their boxes, wrapped in plastic. Put them on display, preferably under glass, and enjoy them !
Long storage mostly affects metal finish models, painted models are not generally affected in this way. But this does not mean that you should not display your painted models !! Enjoy your hobby, folks !!
Those plastic sheets that you find in the boxes are not archival- they are just plastic. Plastic ages & releases oils into it's surroundings. It is these 'oils' that can cause the metal surfaces to react ! Display your models. folks !! Throw those plastic sheets away !!!
