Taught by experienced active commercial pilots, airline pilots, and flight instructors, this Commercial Pilot Ground School will fulfill the Transport Canada ground school requirements for the issuance of a Commercial Pilot License and prepare students to challenge the Transport Canada CPAER Exam.

The experienced instructors actively work in the commercial aviation industry and teach what you need to know to be a successful and safe commercial pilot. This is not your PPL ground school done all over again. The instructors will teach you to approach the material differently and from a new and elevated perspective which will ensure a smooth transition into your first job.

A record of ground school is provided to all students. Students who achieve high marks on their final exams also qualify to receive a letter of recommendation to challenge the Transport Canada CPAER Exam. Students will also be issued an electronic T2202 form for tax purposes.

The ground school is accepted for licensing by Transport Canada and by all flight schools in Canada. It can be done at your own pace and on any device where an internet connection exists. From St. John’s in Newfoundland to the beaches of the Gold Coast, students from all over the world choose to train with the Canadian Flight Trainers Ground School.

Students enrolled in the ground school will experience content in a practical way which extends beyond the traditionally costly in-person ground school. Our team of pilots are all licensed as commercial or airline pilots and have the experience to apply theory to practice in commercial aviation – an often-neglected part of other boring online courses. 

Ground school videos are unique to the CPL student, accessible, engaging, and incorporate the latest in 21st century learning technology and delivery to provide you an opportunity to achieve deep learning and reflect on your student pilot journey up to this point.

Ground school can be done before initiating flight training or done at the same time as flight training. Access to the course is from 9 or 12 months from the purchase date of the ground school.

• Commercial Pilot Air Law
• Meteorology (with material from meteorologist and Captain Doug Morris)
• Commercial Flight Operations
• Advanced Pilot Decision Making and Human Factors
• Threat and Error Management
• Controlled Flight Into Terrain Prevention Training
• Icing and Winter Operations Training
• Commercial Aircraft Performance 
• Navigation, including using LO Charts
• Radio Navigation

Each topic will have an associated assessment task which is designed to help students learn, retain the knowledge from the topic videos, and prepare students for the final written exams.

A Minimum of 6 Transport Canada Sample Examinations are also provided (100 questions each)
