The chrome finish near the tail of this model has dulled. There is also an area of light staining near the wing roots on both sides of the fuselage. I believe this to be caused by glue haze on the surface of the model, trapped after the model was packed at the factory. Many of these models are glued & packed at the factory before the parts have had time to set & cure properly [this is still happening !] & the vapours from the glue have nowhere to go, but to settle on the surface of the model. This haze has caused the chrome finish to dull near the tail & has picked up dirt & dust near the wing roots. The model still looks very nice & will only disappoint the most demanding perfectionist.
Various metal finishes applied to diecast models since the hobby began are among the first things to age. Paint seems to fare fairly well, but metal is fickle & can age very quickly ! Keep your metal finishes away from plastic sheets or plastic cases, or you will be sorry !Â
Age is a 'thing' kids ! Many of these models are getting old & stuff is beginning to happen. Do not expect your new shiny & sparkly models to stay shiny & sparkly for ever. I have been buying collections for close to three decades & have seen what time & environment has done to certain items ! In some cases, models that have been stored in their boxes for two decades have aged worse than models that have been displayed ! Enjoy your models folks!- don't keep them cooped up in their plastic or foam 'tombs'! Just make sure that you dust them [carefully] once in a while.
