Mirage IIICJ 'Shachak" Israeli Air Force 1:48 new 2019 by Eduard
Newest issue in a series of Mirage IIIC kits issued by Eduard in Israeli service. The mold was great when first issued back in 2004, but is even better now as it shows some evidence of upgrading, especially on the fuselage. A beautiful kit, mostly plastic of exceptionally high quality with some resin parts for the engine & exhaust. Two sheets of photo-etch, one pre-painted with cockpit details, the other un-painted showing engine details, ribs & tail units plus an assembly jig. The decal sheet covers five Israeli aircraft, two camo. two natural metal & one grey with full stencils. A mask set rounds out the package. The 11 page instruction booklet is a thing of beauty which covers every detail of the build. This seems a silly thing to point out, but some manufacturers just assume you know what you're doing & give you the vaguest little leaflet to puzzle over. An excellent package & well worth the money.
Eduard was one of the manufacturers that introduced us to short run, multi media models beginning back in the late 1980's. These manufacturers brought us kits in vacform or very simple [crude] plastic parts, with massive sheets of photo-etch brass & metal or resin components [ with little air bubbles trapped in the molding ] of subjects we never thought we'd ever see in kit form. Over the years, they have evolved and refined their manufacturing processes to the level you see evident in this kit. Many of these manufacturers have now entered the mainstream with their quality and Eduard sits on top of the heap in this regard. When short run & mainstream manufacturers regularly join forces to issue a kit [ such as Italeri & Special Hobby with their Wellington kits ] you know that the boundary separating short run & mainstream manufacturing no longer exists.
