Herpa of Germany started business as a model train manufacturer in 1949, followed by diecast automobiles in 1978, and ultimately 1:500 scale diecast aircraft 1987. Herpa's attention to detail and tampo printing systems led the industry in high quality diecast model aircraft markings, superceding other manufacturers that used decals.
Herpa began producing the highest quality airliner 1:200 scale models, exclusively for Lufthansa, the Lufthansa Model-Edition, moulded in plastic in 1988. Years later they expanded their 1:200 aircraft products to other airlines and new aircraft types, smaller types moulded in diecast metal, as well as an entire military aircraft line. Herpa's attention to detail and tampo printing systems lead the industry in high quality diecast plastic and metal models.
